I chose to live in Newfoundland because of the people and the amazing rugged beauty. I moved at a time in my life where I was making a major change and needed a totally different place to live. As a pilot, I'd been flying into here for years and already knew it held a charm for me. From East Coast to West Coast of this great island, I've hiked, travelled and met some great people. Long After the War
A labyrinth of bunkers still exist in Argentia. Argentia was selected in 1940 to be the location of a United States Navy's Station. The base was urgently needed as part of the trans-Atlantic supply line which joined North America to Britain, in order to provide anti-submarine patrols to protect shipping from the German U-boat fleet.
A meeting between President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill was held abroad vessels anchored within the Harbour.
